Shell was the highest ranked oil and gas company on the list at 65. Chevron was ranked 149th and ExxonMobil was ranked 286th. A total of 300 companies were included in the list.

Independent petroleum refiner Valero Energy and integrated, downstream energy company Marathon Petroleum also made the 2019 rankings. Valero was ranked 160th on the list and Marathon placed 234th.

Commenting on its achievement, Chevron said in a statement posted on Twitter that it was “extremely proud” to be named one of the 2019 best employers for women in the United States.

The annual list was compiled by surveying 60,000 Americans, including 40,000 women, working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees.

Earlier this year, Shell and BP were included in the Times Top 50 Employers for Women 2019 list. The list is the UK’s most highly profiled and well-established listing of employers leading the way on workplace gender equality, according to partner Business In The Community.

BP and Shell did not appear in the annual list in 2018. The last time an oil and gas major made it onto the Times Top 50 Employers for Women list was in 2017, when Shell was included.
